2 Questions for fellow Nova 1624 owners.
I am buying a Kel Mcnaughton Standard System for bowl coring this weekend and will probably be wanting to add extra ballast to my lathe- how have you guys added it? Have the standard legs not the cast iron. I’m assuming that you use bags of sand- should I add a shelf to hold it up top? Bottom ?
Also I would like to add a remote off/on switch- similar to what the Robust has. Has anyone done it?
Thanks and hope everyone has a great Thanksgivings.

I built a plywood box that is hung from the slot in the cast iron leg. Here's a link to pics: http://www.aawforum.org/vbforum/showthread.php?t=6531&highlight=steve+harder&page=2

I also built an emergency shutoff switch. Basically a switch that is in a heavy duty extension cord that lathe is then plugged into. (You can see it in pics linked above). It is not a true remote switch, as the Nova on/off switch is power-tool safe from a power outage - it will not allow lathe to restart after power outage until green button is pushed. So my emergency switch is normally on, I turn lathe off/on with Nova switch mounted on motor. If I hit the emergency off, I then need to turn it back on, then use green Nova switch to start lathe again.

Love the lathe, I've got about 500# of ballast and it handles 50# out of round blanks easily.
