Hey guys, I made this ring box for my wife to go along with the Anniversary ring i got her for our 5th.
It is tulipwood and is more pink than it appears in the pics.
Just a very fine sanding and a few light coats of paste wax.

Thanks for looking. Comments welcome as always! http://forum.canadianwoodworking.com/images/smilies/smile.gif

Nice!

Funny, I had exactly the same idea. Well, not the same box design or anything. Just to make a box for a ring for our 5th anniv.

Really nice design and build Ryan.. and thanks for the idea of a ring box as Xmas gift season just arrived. Not knowing much about ring boxes.. it appears you have some type of insert in the inside the rings slide into (?) to keep them upright? If so.. what or how?

Thanks and well done...

Excellent idea, and very nice design. I seem to remember my 5th anniversary, but there have been MANY since!! Congrats, and hope there are many more.

Wonderful idea a thousand dollar box to hold a $700 ring.

Thanks guys.

John Thompson, I used a piece of foam with a slot cut in it, and some black velvet material to cover it. Really a temporary solution just for the presentation of the ring. I have now flocked the inside with black suede flocking for day to day use.

PS, John Olson, while I appreciate what your trying to say about the value of the box, I really don't like your implication that it's a $700 ring. Those are Canadian polar diamonds and the ring is worth far far more than that. Not that it matters. I just think the comment was rude.

Nice Job, Ryan!
Isn't tulipwood fun to work with?
Beautiful wood and design.

Sorry I was just trying to say the box was very expensive. I did not mean to be rude

Morning Ryan.. thanks very much for the reply of how. I probably should have thought of a simple piece of foam with a slit covered as I not very familiar with jewelry and method to store them in a box.

With that said... I am going to come to the defense of John O. as I see he has already apologized for the mis-communication and I do think it was a matter of mis-communication. I think John did as I might have done and was using a generalization to say the you built a million dollar box to hold something of less value (in the eyes of us guys which know tool prices but jewelry is out of our domain to degree) which was only an attempt to raise the level of praise for the box itself.

But... I think John simply grabbed a figure for the stone from thin air to make the generalization as I would have. I... and most guys I know are more than un-familar with what jewelery and precious stones cost. I can't tell the difference in a fake diamond and a real one frankly... and have never been in a financial position to shop for them so it leaves me for the most case clue-less except I know they are expensive but have no concept of true value.

Hope that helps you understand what John was saying as it is the way I inter-rupted his comment when I initially read it...

Again.. million dollar box to hold a "price-less" stone. :)
