Hello,

I have the Craftsman zip code table saw, and today found the need for a 45 degree zero clearance insert. The problem is that when the blade is angled to 45 degrees, it does not sit below the opening for a insert (the insert will not sit flush in the opening to raise the blade into it and make the new zero clearance plate). Hopefully my explaination makes sense, but do any of you have any ideas on how I may be able to pull this off?

You can take a router and hog out space on the under side. Ifyou have some forstner bits, that would work also.

Can you use a smaller (say, 7") blade just to get the cut going?

If it is a 10" saw you can use one of your outside blades from your dado stack to cut the kerf. You can also use a 7-1/4" circular saw blade to cut it. You can also cut a clearance slot by tilting your blade and positioning you fence at the edge of your current insert. Make a couple of passes about 1/8" deep or deep enough to clear the blade.
