Can anyone reccommend a good mobile base the the Jet 12" Jointer Planer? Perhaps some have made their own, I would appreciate your .02.

Thanks

I like these universal base hardware kits from Woodcraft.

I have a number of machines on them. They are on sale right now also but you would have to find one at a store. They are out of stock online.

Delta also makes a version of that Woodcraft kit. But it is slightly more expensive at least on Amazon. More like the non-sale price of the Woodcraft ones, $78 I think. Anyway, they are good bases, I have a couple of them.

But for around the same money, you could get one of the Grizzly bases and then not have to mess with cutting lumber. I was just in Grizzly today looking at one because I'm going to add long rails to my contractor saw and want the rail legs to be on the base as well. Grizzly offers an extension kit for their bases to do just that.

Here is my mobile base:http://www.sawmillcreek.org/showthread.php?t=76454&highlight=mobile+base
I wanted handles so I wasn't pushing and pulling on the tables. Perhaps there's no problem with using the tables but given that jointer table alignment is the subject of so much angst, why subject them to forces for which they may not be engineered? Others simply fasten heavy duty casters to the base of the machine and are happy with that solution. Do bear in mind this critter ain't light, 540 lbs. or thereabouts. Make sure your mobile base is up to the task. I tried using a lighter duty mobile base for a cabinet saw. It didn't work well at all.

I believe HTC makes a dedicated mobile base for that machine.
