Is it possible to remove a keyless chuck from a defunct cordless drill and use it on the lathe? I"m not cheap, just resourceful. Pennypincher Max. Oops, not the drill, the chuck.

If you're handy around a machine shop, or have a machinist friend...all the cordless drills I've ever worked on were threaded.

If you can find a owners manual they usually have instructions for removing the chuck.

Harvey, normal procedure, small screw in the bottom of the chuck, has left hand thread normally, remove that first, next get the largest allen wrench that will fit the chuck, chuck the allen wrench, then smack the allen wrench so as to turn and remove the chuck, chuck has right hand thread normally, HTH

I actually tried that with my drill that went out a week ago and I tried to get it out but wasn't able to. It was probably just me though.

Leo is right about removing the chuck. They sometimes are a pain to get off, but that will work. Of course, you will then have a threaded chuck, and will need some kind of threaded Morse taper adapter to use it on your lathe. That would likely cost more than just getting a morse taper chuck. Have fun with it.
