I am considering looking at a Delta 6" Jointer made in Brazil in 1988. Can anyone offer any insights on the quality of this era of machine? Obviously the individual example may have wear and tear issues, but I am just looking for clues as to the Brazilian machines.

Was this the period of Delta decline, or prior to that?

Any comments appreciated, thanks.

In the late 90's early 00's Delta had a problem with warped fences on 6" jointer's. That would be after the date you gave but would be an easy check just to make sure.

I know Delta made the DJ-20 in Brazil for awhile. I saw one from that era, and it was as good as I'd expect.

Just bring a straightedge and check the tables and fence for flatness....

I think the manufacturer was Invicta ?? From Brazil..

Apparently they make a decent enough machine..

I don't know about the 6" machines, but I have a DJ20 (8") that is an Invicta made unit from Brazil and it is top notch.

The 6" machine should be a DJ15 which is a little brother to the DJ20. Built the same only smaller. I had one and used it for years and no problems. Nice smaller machines, sold mine last year since I have a 12" and no room for both of them.
