haven't made many boxes on the lathe. this is spanish cedar with curly maple. for a guy at work; $40, his gift to wife for making it through basic training (!). danish oil and 2-buffed. comments/critiques always welcome. mike

I like it. Nice proportions. I like how you split the maple between the top and the rim of the bowl.
I am not crazy about the knob. The angles IMO does not blend in with the bowl. I think a more rounded knob would go better.

toney, i agree - i think a knob more the shape of the box would look better, too, now that i've seen the photos - maybe next time :o. richard, regarding the photo set-up, i had put the thing in my truck, and had to get a photo or two before i left for work and wasn't able to!

Mike - I am sure the gift will be greatly appreciated! I also like your use of curly maple on the lip as well as the lid - it ties everything together! As far as the knob - you could turn one more of a mushroom shape - but then it would look very similar to all the other knobs out there! This one is unique - stick with it!
