Hello all, I'm venturing from the turning side for a moment and doing a couple of small doors for a project. I'm using 3/4 popular for the frames and have some 1/4" oak laying around I'll use for the inserts. 1/4" actually is 3/16".I have the Freud SD508 and see using both outside cutters will give me a 1/4" dado. Is that what I'm supposed to do for the insert? Will that be to much slop? I'm new at this flat kind of stuff when it comes to dados. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Sean

Too much slop...use one blade and make 2 passes to widen the slot. Sneak up on the setting until you get a snug, not tight fit.

+1 with Joe. That's what I do as well.

Sean,

I would use a regular blade and the rip fence.....make one pass down the middle.....reverse ends and repeat. Move the fence as necessary to get a slightly snug fit.

Exactly right approach, Ken.

Thank you all, thats what I'll do. Saves me from changing out the blade as well. Sean
