I just got my dowel tap 3/4 and red oak dowel (exact same size)

measuring with the calipers there is no room for movement.

Besides sanding the down dowel and or wax or chalk, what is the best match up?
Sanding down dowel will also make it smaller for receiving a threaded nut.
There must be a correct size for the dowel to be and match up with the cut tap threads.
Any help thanks guys.

Wax the dowel before threading it. If it's too tight, sanding it a bit is OK. Wood threads are not that precise to begin with. My favorite "trick" is to thread the dowel and then get it wet. Wait a few moments for the wood to swell a bit and then run it through the threader again. When it dries it will shrink slightly making a better fit with the tapped piece. You don't want the fit to be too tight or the threads will bind.
