Hey all,

I'm looking a good quality come-along that i can use to lower a handtruck loaded with machinery down my basement stairs. It needs to be able to go about 12 feet.

I could pick up a cheapie at HF but I'm afraid it might break.

Any thoughts?

Mike

Jet sells a couple. I think they are probably better than the ones HF sells. Do a Google for Jet come along.

Mike,

Look at his one:

I have this and have used it to lift cabinet tools in shop. Well made and easy to use. I bought mine at Home Depot two years ago for about $40.

Amazon has the same thing

Thanks David, the Jet is on the way.

I looked at that one Paul but it didn't go far enough (it's only 6').

Thanks guys,

Mike

I have used the cable come along type and do not really care for them to do what you want to do. I have some old very heavy duty cable come along that I use for moving very heavy items but I prefer the chain type. They aren't cheap but they are great when used for what they were made for. The cable type have sharp edges and can mark or scratch things. When used for lifting they are fine but when used for moving things horizontally or down stairs is where I have problems with them.

I know it's too late but I'm with David. comealongs are a pain in the neck for lowering. I'd go to a rental shop and rent a chainfall. Real easy up and just the same down.
