I was wondering if it is at all possible to engrave on yellow zinc plated spring steel? And if so how can it be done?

Tough to say... it depends upon the composition of the coating. Some pretty pure stuff should mark okay.

Are you sure it's plated? It may be zinc chromate primer which is a paint used prior to painting the final coat. It is used primarily in the aircraft industry but can also have other applications.

Beth, The main reason for zinc plating is for corrosion control. I would be reluctant to try lasering away any of the plating. My suggestion would be to try using Cermark. Having never tried it on zinc I can't tell you if it will work.

yeah i thought about cermark also but not sure if the yellow plating will come off during the marking process

I have never tried it my self but would try to mark it bare if that did not work then I would try it using the thermark lmm14. That seems to work better for me on difficult surfaces better than the lmm 2000
