View Full Version : Veneering Advice

I just started preparing some wood to build a couple of cherry Jewelry Boxes from Norm's NYW plans. You know, the one with the "secret" pull out base.

Because I have 2 daughters, I have to build two, and I want to make them slightly different. In one, I was thinking of inlaying a square with maple strips in the top for contrast. That I can do. (I think)

On the other, I was hoping to inlay in the top a rectangle of lacewood veneer that I got at a tag sale a while ago. It has really nice figure and I thought it would look good. I have never veneered, so I'm looking for some advice on what to look out for. I was just planning on routing a recess, cut the veneer to size, glue and clamp, and sand flush with my drum sander.

Am I overlooking anything? Can I use regular Titebond or must I use special glue?

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Bob

On something as small as a jewelry box, Titebond will be fine. Do a search in this forum for veneering and creep to read a lengthy thread on the same subject.
