 Any one know of a source of wood in CT. I have been buying from HD and Lowes, but am limited to oak, poplar, pine etc. I have found a few sources online, but the cost seems very high, and the size available for shipping is limited. Thanks for the help.

Paul, I don't know where in CT you are, But Berkshire Products in Sheffield, MA (just South of Great Barrington) has a great selection, with weekly specials on cut-offs and other goodies. Google the name- I know they have a website. All of the wood is kiln-dried, rough cut. It's a nice drive, 'specially during leaf season.

I would recommend woodfinder.com for finding wood anywhere in the US.

The place to go is Connecticut Hardwood (http://www.cwghardwoodoutlet.com/index.html) in Enfield. Their prices are fair.

Moore's is a local sawmill in Bloomfield. I was looking for some cherry and he was a bit expensive. However, he dids have some real nice chestnut I have my eyes on.

Paul,

Depending on what you're looking for, CWG is a great place to go to. Harris Enterprises in Manchester has a lot of stock in a wide variety of species. Their prices tend to be a bit higher. You can check out both CWG and Harris online. Here are links to CWG (http://www.cwghardwoodoutlet.com/) and Harris (http://www.harrisent.com/). I agree that Moore's prices tended to the high side also.

I've also have some good luck, for small quantities, at hitting some of the good-tome, old, local lumberyards. The stock will be 1x, so not really 4/4. Riley in Bloomfield, Sanford & Hawley in Manchester, and the one in Old Saybrook are some that I have hit.

Look in the local yellow pages under lumber. Where are you in CT?

I've purchased quite a bit from both Harris and CT Wood Group. Harris is closer to me and more convenient, but their prices are higher. I buy almost all my wood now from CT Wood Group. They have a good selection, including hardwood plywoods if you need them. Plus I love playing with their shop dogs:) .

If I had a good wood storage area, I would head to New York or PA and make a bulk purchase. Much cheaper that way for cherry.

I'll have to chime in on the CWG chorus :) . On several occaisions, I have called in the morning with an order and its all planed, jointed one edge, and packed ready to go when I get there. Of course, you can also pick your own stock. Where are you in CT?

Thanks for the info. I live in Waterbury, so the drive to both CWG and Harris is not that far.

If you aren't too far from NY you could try Maurice Condon in White Plains and in stormvill which is not too bad a ride from the Danbury area. A little pricey but they have a big selection. Woodcraft in Norwalk has some stuff too.
