So I made one. It's crazy that all the kids said "What is it for." I'm too young to feel that old.

I still see them when we go out to eat. Maybe you need to feed the kids more often :p

Where do you eat that they still use them?

You know with the economy the way it is, the kids have to make their sacrifices too. If they want honey they have to go looking for hives. :D

Bo doesn't have time to take the family out to eat!! He is too busy playing with his new toy! Good job on that one, Bo.

BTW, your skill level is increasing dramatically!!

haha, john that was a great point, definitely big improvement there. Another month and you'll have some nice looking bowls.

Thanks guys. I am surprised at how this is coming along, I was worried I wouldn't be able to make pine do anything decent.

John, as much time as I spend looking at all the other tools I MUST have to make more stuff, pretty soon I won't have the money to take them out either. But the Mrs. still wants her pen making setup so she will understand soon enough.

I haven't seen one for a long time either but yours looks very good. Can't tell that it's pine if that's what it is. If you need a couple pieces of hard maple I could fix you up if you want to make more.

Kenneth, It looks as though you have been sucked deep into the Vortex! The honey dipper is a pretty important piece in my bag of tricks! I started making them a couple years ago and have sold a couple hundred of them! I sell them to a local potter who makes the honey pots and she puts them in with her pots. I have 20 to make right now, along with all the ornaments I have been turning.

Good luck and stay with it,

Jeff

Thanks again guys for all the kind words.

Steve, some Maple would be great, lets set something up. I've only been at it for a couple days and I've only used pine and ceder, but I'm excited to see how some of the other woods turn.

Jeff, good to hear there is still a market for them, at least in your neck of the woods. As soon as I am able to get a couple bowl gouges I am planning on making honey pots with lids. Not sure if I should make the lid with a slot in it or make the dipper part of the lid.

Kenneth, The slot in the lid is the way to go, gets to cumbersome the other way. I have sold a bunch to a lady in Oregon too, I think the dippers are a home use type product.

Thanks Jeff, good to know. I was thinking about the one piece lid/dipper so the sticky lid wouldn't have to be put down on anything while getting honey out. I was also thinking about making the lid a "captured ring" on the dipper(ok maybe someone who knows how to do that can, that one still eludes me). Just thinking outside the box. To a person that hasn't seen how this stuff works, the more "trickery" that goes into it, the more interested they are in spending money on it. And the prouder they are to show off the treasure they picked up.
