I was challenged to turn something that I had not done before – something to push my comfort zone – and this is what I came up with.

Maple bowl, 8 ¾” diameter x 3 ¾” high, with a nice and thin undercut rim that was then drilled, burnt and inked with my version of Forget-Me-Not flowers. It was then sanded to 400 grit and topped off with several coats of gloss poly.

Thanks for looking!

Sorry Steve, I'm not buying it. I think you're pretty comfortable doing anything to a piece of wood.;)

That is really beautiful. Just enough to be interesting and not enough to overwhelm the bowl. Excellent work as always!

Very imaginative Steve. I really like that. It's nice to have somebody to copy or at least try. :)

Thanks everyone! I appreciate the vote of confidence! Have to admit it was pretty tough the first time to intentionally drill holes into a perfectly good bowl! After drilling the first hole - lets just say I felt committed and decided to follow through on the rest of the idea.

I like how it turned out but found the process took way to long. 45 minutes to turn the bowl but slightly over an hour to hand ink all the flowers! Not used to that inking stuff!

I wouldn't worry about the comfort zone Steve. You nailed that one. Beautiful bowl and flowers look great.

Steve, Nice job on the bowl and the flowers look great! If you start wearing a poofy armed smock, a beret with flower and grow a cute little soul patch on your chin, we will know you are a true artist and not just a darn good woodturner!! HA HA!! That is what a couple of my buddies tell me that I should do to draw attention to my "ART" I tell them they are crazy! Good friends are hard to come by so I let them slide.

Great work as always,

Jeff

Steve, those little "extras" are what set you apart from the crowd. Nice work, and "just enough" on the flowers. Any more would have been too much, and less just not enough.

Steve,I really like the shape and the flowers are a nice touch. Which part was out of your comfort zone? Everything looks great.
