I found a great buy on a roughly 12"x21" hard rubber (or rubber-like plastic) tray at the local "Dollar Store" for one dollar each that is great for containing the mess when sharpening with water stones. Unlike my previous cookie-sheet sized plastic tray, it has plenty of room for several stones, spray bottle, jig, blades, etc.
A no-slip tool-tray liner, router pad, or kitchen shelf liner in the bottom of the tray works great to keep stones from sliding around, though this tray is made from "grippier" stuff than my previous hard plastic tray.
It is sold as a tray for wet, snowy, or muddy shoes and boots and similar household purposes.
