I thought I'd try a little different form with this piece of buckeye. Boy was this a tough piece of wood. It was full of mud, rocks, voids, bark and was murder on my tools. I ruined a band saw blade rounding out the blank.

Let me know what you think.

Thanks, Ken

I think you need to post a few more pictures to adequately show this beauty off because it looks totally awesome.

What are the dimensions?

Ken,

That is gnarly and wickedly beautiful! I'll bet it made some noise when spinning on the lathe! Nicely done!

Well worth a band saw blade :)

I like that. Shows that you don't have to have a perfect solid round peice of wood to make something outstanding.

Here's a view of the other side.

I have already taken it to the gallery to display but I think I remember the dimensions to be 11" tall and 8 1/2" in diameter. The wall thickness is just over 1/8" down to about 7" and then gradually thicker to 3/8" thick at the bottom. I left the bottom thicker because of a nasty bark inclusion that went right through the tenon. I was afraid that the whole thing would explode at the end of all that work...

Ken,
Very well done to keep it together. I have always had Burled and spalted Buckeye chip on me. This is a great looking form. It has all the features in it to keep your attention and show how difficult it is to turn such a fragile Hollow form. One Bandsaw Blade = one beautiful piece. A small sacrifice.
Great work!

Good job. These HFs amaze me.

I know you did not ask for a name, but the first thing that came to mind when I saw this was that it should be named "What's Left". Just my thoughts...

I like it, and am amazed you get it to stay together.

It may have been a real pain but you made it worth all the effort in my eyes.
