Wood filler

Just got new windows. Did not go to as expected quality wise, unfortunately I didn't have time to take on this task my self. In any case I need to fill the nail holes in the trim thats getting painted and the trim that is getting clear coated.

Haven't used a lot of wood filler, but I want something that works for the clear coat scenario (pine) and it shouldn't sag (if possible).

Any recommendations ?

Painted trim. Just use the window caulking in a tube.

Clear coat. See if you can find some Famowood filler.

They have both oil base and waterbase.
I like the oil base. Dries much faster.
Comes in different colors.

I agree with the famowood for the clear finished work. If you use caulk on the painted work, you will end up with little sunken dimples when it all dries.

I suggest plain ol' Elmer's Carpenter's Wood Filler, available at any hardware store, big box, etc.

Two coats, both sanded with a sanding block will make a nice job with invisible nail holes.

Hi,

Agree with the paint caulk. Was not planning on using it for nail holes.

Wish they had made it nicer, but it can be mostly fixed. I'm almost going by a woodcraft tomorrow so I'll check out the famowood. If it's good I'll probably just use it for the painted stuff too.

Nice to know Elmer's is ok too.
