I'm wanting to purchase an HVLP system on a limited budget, so I've been researching and comparing the Earlex HV3000 (http://www.amazon.com/Earlex-HV3000-Spray-Station-Sprayer/dp/B000E24CDA), the Rockler system (http://www.rockler.com/product.cfm?page=10469), the Harbor Freight system (http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/Displayitem.taf?itemnumber=44677), and the Cambell Hausfeld (http://www.sears.com/shc/s/p_10153_12605_00988586000P?vName=Tools&keyword=hvlp). In doing so, I stumbled accross the Earlex HV2900 (http://www.lowes.com/lowes/lkn?action=productDetail&productId=309887-89183-HV2900USLO&lpage=none) which is a brand new product and only sold at Lowe's. In fact, Lowe's is still testing the market, so it is actually only available at the Lowe's in Texas (I live in GA).

So I started comparing the Earlex 3000 ($139) to the 2900 ($129) to see if the extra $10 was worth it. I couldn't find much about the 2900 so I called Earlex (excellent customer service) to find out. Turns out the 2900 has more power, comes with a 3.0 needle (for paint) and a 1.5 needle (for thinner wood finishes), has a longer hose, and comes with a steel sprayer instead of plastic. Sounds like a winner to me! I think I'll be getting myself and early Christmas present. :D

You might want to call ahead to that Lowes in Texas, to make sure they have one before you drive all the way over there. :)

Thanks for the tip! :) Or I could go to my local Lowe's and have them special order it and pay the shipping. Hmmm, let me think about it...I do love a good road trip...nah, I'll just order it. ;)

you have a decent sized compressor? If so, look at a conversion gun. flea-bay always has a decent supply of Walcom conversion guns for decent prices. Sometimes you will see an Asturo pop up there also. I know nothing about this setup but I do about the Walcoms and they are fantastic guns. Just another option.

Thanks, I thought about that, but unfortunately I only have room for my little 2 gallon compressor. If I can ever confiscate the other half of my garage from my wife, maybe I'll get a bigger compressor. Or better yet, I'll just build a whole new workshop! Oh what a great dream... :D
