I was looking for your opinions on Aluminum bar clamps. Do they hold up and what experiences have you had?

I bought 6 of the 30" tiawan made ones a couple years ago. I use them on door assemblies. Light, easy to use. But the screw and threaded end leave a lot to be desired. One of them has already seized up. The american made should be better, but do not own any of them.

Not real happy with some 48" clamps from Rockler. They flex so much under load, they will pop off the work.

I've had pretty good luck with some 36" and 48" I bought at HF on sale. Not bad for the money.

The October 2004 issue of Fine Woodworking rates the various types and manufaturers of bar clamps. According to that review, the aluminum type are quite good. Of the aluminum manufacturers they reviewed (Jorgensen, WMH/Jet, Rockler, and Universal), they liked the Universal the best.
