So I have this old 6" craftsman metal Lathe, and after looking through the manual It looks like i can use it for some woodturning, but there's no tool rest, and i really don't know where i would attach one. any recommendations?

Patrick I turn wood on a metal lathe and have done so for many years.
I was able to buy a banjo from a wood lathe with the same swing, otherwise I would have build one for the inboard side as I did for the outboard side.
The banjo rides on top of the ways and so doesn't harm the prisms at all, all I had to do is make a hold down block as the ways on the metal lathe are much heavier/thicker than on the wood lathes.
Here are two pictures, but I also have an Album you can have look at if you care ;)

Thanks Leo, that's exactly what i'm looking for, i'll have to cruise ebay or something, maybe i can adapt something that I already have. I'm learning all sorts of new skills just to get these old tools in working condition again, and i haven't even been able to fire them up yet. Thanks for taking the time to answer my question, the pictures are really helpful!
