A friend wants me to refurbish his Dad's 1935 Walnut blanket chest he made in high school shop class. It has been stored in an outside shed for years, got wet, and moved in every direction wood in those conditions can move. All the miters of the skirt are separated, the hinged top does not sit square and the carcass which is joined with what I'd call drawer joints is coming apart in places. Was hide glue the likely adhesive used in those days? And would I have to go to new wood to get any of today's glues to hold?
