Ok, so I don't know what these things I'm looking for are called, but maybe someone has an idea what I'm looking for.

I have a project where I'm going to have a hollow sphere (in two halves) that I need to fasten together. I initially just thought I'd glue it, but then there is a chance I'll need to open it back up later. So, I thought of those fasteners which allow you to put two halves together and twist the halves a few degrees and it locks them together. Twist the other way and they come apart.

Anyone know where I might find something like that?

Thanks in advance!
Jared

Thanks Mike...I think that might work, but it might be a bit too large. To expand on what my project is (I didn't before because it is actually not woodworking related, but I knew that the potential hardware I'd need would be found in a woodworking store):

I am going to be working with an 8" diameter smoothfoam ball (in two halves)...so basically styrofoam. The wall thickness of the halves is around 5/8" thick. I'm looking for something that needs to hold hardly any weight (since its styrofoam) and is really small (or as small as I can get). I figure I can epoxy the hardware in/to the styrofoam (assuming it doesn't melt the styrofoam)

Essentially (for those interested), I'm going to mount some servos inside the ball and cut mouths out of the balls and paint them to look like Christmas ball ornaments and have them sing carols on our front yard. I did this with foam pumpkins for Halloween and it was a huge hit.

Again, my apologies since this project is not woodworking related, but as I mentioned, I am sure the hardware is. Feel free to delete this thread if this is way off base for this forum.

Anyone have any other thoughts on what could be used?

rare earth magnets... easy.

With that solved, can you post a couple pics of what you made? Would love to see them.

Jon,
Ack! Great! Thanks - I even have some of those :) I totally didn't think of that easy solution.

For those interested, here are a couple links to some videos of the prop for Halloween: http://www.youtube.com/halloweenjared and http://halloweenjared.blogspot.com

Thanks again! This site is great! Once the holidays wind down I'll be back to woodworking - got a hall table to build to match a mirror I made last year.

Thanks!
Jared

Since this doesn't involve woodworking, I moved it to the Off Topic Forum which is more appropriate.

Jared, you could use some small dowels. Sharpen both ends in a pencil sharpener, push them half way into one face of 5/8" thickness (where you cut them in half )and then when you are ready, push the other half on. You can remove the halves whenever you need to. Lots of craft folks stick styrofoam parts together that way with toothpicks. Cheaper than buying hardware, glue, etc. ;)

Thanks Ken - sorry, didn't see that forum.
