Been wanting to get a lathe for some time now. Not sure how big of one I want yet but I dont want to buy to small and want to upgrade right away. JET 1642 maybe?

Anyway when is the best time to buy? Is this the right time of year with the holiday season and all comming up?

I guess when am I going to get the biggest bang for my buck.

I have been looking at Craigs List for a few weeks and not much as been there, I find that odd.

Thanks

Jay

Jay - I just got a email from WHM Toolgroup ( makers of Jet and Powermatic) and they are going to offer a 15% off sale for the 4 days following Thanksgiving. Course they do state it is dealer dependent - but at least that is one sale I am aware of.

PM me with your email address and I will forward a copy to you.

Oh yeah - Welcome to the Creek!

I have demonstrated saeveral times on the Jet 1642 and I think that it's an excellent lathe for the money. My only real criticism is that it doesn't have a real handwheel.

I am currently teaching pen turning to 16 year olds at a local high school on a Jet 1642. It runs very nicely at high speed.

I've always found that if I really wanted something the best time to buy it is yesterday, because after I get it I wondered what took me so long. Priceless.

I think the Jet 1642 is an excellant choice. It appears it will serve the average turner for many years. Unless I win the lottery anytime soon it will be my next lathe

It would appear that I should wait just a little and see what happens towards the end of November!

I hate to burn your bubble Jay but keep in mind the lathe isn't your only purchase. Chucks, Jaws, an assortment of tools, tool rests and so on.

Woodcraft is having a big sale the end of November. I think the PM3520B is going to be $2889.

If you talk to them now at your local WoodCrafter store they will give you the discount. 15% off Jet and Powermatic. When I was looking they told me they could give the discount starting November 1st. This way you can get em while they havem in stock.

That is what almost had me on the Jet1642 but Grizzly then put there G0632 on sale which gives me some extra cash for "stuff" for it :D

Craig's List is not a good place to look if you want to do some serious woodturning. Allow me to suggest that you check all the different woodturning sites. They all have classifieds, want ads, etc., and there are many good lathes listed the last time I checked.:)
