I'm making my own router table and stand. I'm ready now to cut out my MDF top that will have Formica included soon. The MDF is 2 - 3/4" pieces glued together.

So how should I proceed, this is what I'm thinking.

Once I put on the Formica I cut out a square or rectangle just big enough for the body of the router. Then use a router to cut open the top that will be the exact size of the router plate along with the exact depth for the plate too.

Now for the two screws that attach the plate to the MDF, do I bore out holes in the MDF, then place a nut in it to be glued into place. Finally for the screws that will face up on the table to make fine height adjustments for the plate, do I drill holes straight through the MDF and again glue in place nuts to hold these bolts in place?

I've done a few. My favorite method:

Mine is just set in the hole. I done have anything that is hold it in place. Yours looks like the router table from WOOD mag. Mine is too.

The owners manual that came with the Jessem Plate I used, came with directions. Including what diameter pattern bit to use and other hints/instructions. Might want to read yours an see if yours includes same.

This plate from Rockler didn't come with any directions or template, I even called them to verify it.

What I did for the two screws that hold the plate to the table was to get two large toggle nuts, screw them on backwards, and draw the plate tight to the table. Really simple and worked great.
