At fifty bucks a set after shipping would you get 1" or 3/4 wood tap and die set from Grizley? Also does anyone have interesting uses such as grape crusher????

If you have a lathe, get one that has the same threads as your drive spindle, then you can make wooden chucks and faceplates all you want.

In general, the bigger diameter is going to be stronger, so choose the biggest one that is still small enough to be useful.

Check out this. http://www.bealltool.com/products/turning/spindletap.php
I have a set with 1/2. 34.1 and 1 1/4 inches - Pretty fun and works very well.

+1 for the Beall threading kit. Also, get the small book he and his daughter publish. You won't be able to stop thinking about all the cool things you can make with the wooden threads. Plus, it's a small US business you are supporting.

If you are only going to get one size, i'd get 3/4", because it is the most useful size. A spindle tap for your lathe is really in a different category.
