David - very nice work on both bowls!

Really like the Oak - the rays as well as how thin you managed to take the piece! Great job on keeping the natural edge! Bowl looks very light weight!

Very nice work on the Pine - usually very easy to get tear-out on soft woods! Like the contrast in colors and how you made the knot a focal point!

Very nice work! Thanks for sharing!

Lovely pieces all..,. You did an especially good job keeping a nice even wall thickness on the NE. That can be very troublesome at times!...Bill..

Both are very striking, love the rays on the oak. Did you do anything special to keep the knot intact on the pine as it dried?

Beautiful bowls, David. I really like the simple form of the NIP that lets the various colors shine. And the oak bowl is outstanding. I normally think of it as a ho hum kind of wood, but doing it natural edged turns ho hum into quarter sawn BAM! :)

Dan,

Nothing special on the Norfolk blank... It was dry when I turned it and the knot was suprisingly stable. It is nothing like regular pine... no pitch and the smell is entirely different. The pictures don't show it really well, but even the plainer parts of the wood have an iridescence that is pretty striking. I'd jump at the chance to turn some more of it.

Thanks to everyone for the kind words and input.
