A week or so ago I de-rusted a pair of $5 disston backsaws with vinegar and I made replacement handles from a scrap of maple. The finish is danish oil with beeswax melted into it. The shorter one is sharpened crosscut and freshly sharpened. The longer is in the process of being resharpened ripcut. The original handles were nothing to brag about.

Thanks for the kind words. For what its worth, If I were to do it again I would buy new nuts/bolts. The originals were designed for 3/4" stock and the new handles were made from 1 1/8" stock so I had to recess the nuts a lot more than I wanted. It works but it doesn't look very tidy.
