where is the best place to buy them? what is the lowest grit that will work well for sharpening lathe tools. i have a 6 inch grinder would i be better off buying new wheels or a 8 inch with the new wheels already the correct grit?

i have a woodcraft store within 20 minutes of me :)

At $110 and free shipping until the 24th this woodcraft 8' grinder has two very decent al ox wheels:

And these Norton 3x K grade wheels at $40 each are my favorite at a reasonable price:

So, $76 plus shipping 3/4" thick 6" wheels, versus $110 shipped for a new slow speed grinder with good larger 1" thick 8" dia wheels.....Hmmmm. Now that I think about it the choice seems clear!

I was in the same boat Cody. I bought the 8" from Woodcraft and haven't looked back. To me it is much easier and nicer sharpening tools on a 1" X 8" wheel.
