I found this device wich looks to be perfect for one of my applications:
http://www.vandykes.com/product/206511/glue-master-set

But I need one more type that I have yet to find. The best way to describe it is that is looks like a standard office tape dispensor with a rubber wheel where the tape would normally be. The area around the wheel is filled with glue.

http://www.officedepot.com/a/products/431954/Scotch-C-60-Desktop-Tape-Dispenser/?cm_mmc=Mercent-_-Yahoo-_-Office_Tape_and_Dispensers-_-431954&mr:referralID=ea59989d-be8d-11de-bbda-000423bb4e95

That is kind of what I mean, except the curvy top would be flat.

I am using PVA (white glue). Has anybody seen these for sale anywhere?

I actually saw one on a video from Taylor Guitars (Factory Fridays). It is such an obvious design. You would think they were available. Perhaps they are one off design specifically built for gluing guitar braces.

Whaa.

Huh, you are right. It was working, and I ordered it. For $9.99. Most sites have it for $20-40.

Must be one of those web pricing errors. I wonder how many folks ordered one before they figured it out?;)

Try this: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001C06B8W

And, watch this video to see the roller device I am still seeking:

They used to sell ceramic rollers in a small rectangular dish for sealing envelopes and wetting stamps for offices doing a lot of mailing. Check the office supply catalogs.

A guy that frequents this Amish store made one with a short length of capped PV and bronze bushings. Roller removes from glue pot when not in use. He was selling them there the last time I was there. It was over $100 if I remember right - maybe $200 ish.

Here is a powered one for $800.

JLT also makes some other foot/lift spreaders as well ranging in price from $500-$1300

Now THAT is the right idea. Gonna be expensive in $US. I used to see analogs of this in the post office for wetting stamps. Now if I could just find one!

I would suggest just making one, but I don't think it's that simple. I believe that you have to use two rollers. The spacing between the two rollers determines the glue thickness. If you only use one roller, it'll just pick up as much glue as it can hold, vary with speed, etc. So it's a little more complex than the little water wheel used for wetting stamps.

Very good point! In fact, the one mentioned above has two rollers. I was wondering what that was all about. Maybe that one from the UK is worth the investment. Plus, it has a top to seal it when not in use.

Someone just sent me a picture of an upside down, rubber castor wheel. Combine that with a "moat" of sorts and a rolling aluminum bar (for glue layer thinning) and we are where I want to be. All for about $10. That German thingy was cool, but as $122 USD shipped, it is not even close to worth it.
