Someone I work with is selling a PC 4112 that's never been used for $50. That seems like a pretty good deal, but he did say that the manual is missing. I've already found a copy of the manual online, but wondered what else is suppose to be in the box? He didn't think it had a bit. Can you use any dovetail bit?

From what I've found, it seems like most people liked the 4112.

Kelvin,

If it's new it sounds like a good deal. I use to have one and I think I paid about $140.

Here's what's in the box, or suppose to be. http://www.deltaportercable.com/Products/ProductDetail.aspx?ProductID=11590

They are "special" bits but easy to find.

it comes with two bits... a dt bit and a straight bit.

ahh.. .link above has the list of parts it comes with.

Even if you have to purchase a bit or two separately, if it has most of the other parts.... $50 is a darn good deal.

I guess see if it comes with the 1/2" 14 degree router bit, 5/8" edge guide bushing, and 4 edge guides (1/2", 1/4", rabbeted).

Otherwise you'll have to get these parts through a PC parts dealer.

I have a 4212 and the router bit is unique in that it's sized in 32nds and you can just find a replacement bit easy, you've got to order the porter cable brand bit. :(

Other than that, it works fine.

I thought some other bits were intended to work with the PC jigs.

In the supplementary manual for the 4212 (this may be different for the 4112) they explain the method behind the madness of the bit sizes.

1) Angle is 7 degrees for the templates to work correctly
2) The sum of the diameters of the straight and dovetail bit must be 15/16.

Given this information you can substitute other sizes of bits and to get different looking joints as well as do the inlayed dovetails.

The "standard" kit bits are available as aftermarket from several other manufacturers. Eagle America, MLCS, Whiteside and others carry them.

Nice, thanks matt, I don't know why I didn't come across those bits. I think I looked at two sources and amazon.com but was unsuccessful.

I'm also not good with calculating what bits will work with the template. I prefer just seeing a list of part numbers that I know will work. :D
