Our house had a Jenn-Air range when we moved in. Slowly, the display began to dim, to the point now you can't really read it at all. Since we may have to sell soon due to marital issues (buy HIGH, sell LOW, that's what I always say  ) and I'd rather fix this thing then replace it, not least because the installation requires a downdraft vent, which seem to cost much more. I'm a fair hand with electronics, and after poking around awhile back, I found out it could be either the display board itself, of the power supply which drives it. Both are $200+ Couldn;t find any service info, with voltages etc., so when I couldn't quickly figure out which was the problem, we just continued to use it as-is, which is possible, but won't look good in a for-sale situation. SO, if anyone has any ideas, I'd like to hear them. Model # is SVD48600B

TIA

I just this minute finished repairing our stove! Easier though, the brackets that hold on the oven door handle broke. The replacements were metal, not flimsy plastic like the originals.

Those displays typically go out do to internal electronics problems that are not repairable without specialized skills and testing equipment. If the part is at least $200 it's time to consider whether it's worth the cost of fixing, or you might be better off buying a lower end range to replace it. If you do end up selling, a working, new range is probably better than a non-working Jenn Air. There are some good sale prices out there these days.

Dan,

Have you checked the connection to the green board to see if it is making good contact and it is clean. It might be worth your time to take something like contact cleaner and plug it back in. ( I'm guessing this is an LCD panel) try to find how much voltage is suppose to run through those cables and make sure you are getting proper voltage. If that doesn't work then I would say you have something going bad on the board somewhere. I don't know where you send off the board to be tested and repaired. I have bought stove parts in the past at:
www.AppliancePartsPros.com and had success with their parts and their shipping is very quick. Hope this helps.

I have a service manual for that stove, just need to figure how to get it to you if you want it?

First, is the display fluorescent? I can't imagine any other display that would dim and then go out.

Do you know what the output of the power supply is supposed to be? If yes, then a DMM should tell you whether it is still functioning.

If I remember right, the display is a LED.

I have a Jenn-Air Range with the same problem. From what I understand the problem is often a capacitor on the display board. Some have been able to fix the board by soldering in another -- but the standard fix is to replace it. You can buy them online for about $125.00. The display is fluorescent and the capacitor is part of the power supply on that board. The power supply board is another part - normally if the range is working other than the display the power supply board is OK.

The capacitor does not like heat -- on mine the display is on the front directly above the oven door! Some models have the display on the rear top -- but the heat from the oven vent gets it.

I'd LOVE to have a copy! How big is it? Would it be possible for you to scan the potentially relevant parts & email? Or I'd be happy to reimburse you for shipping!!!

Tom - Thanks for the tip. My board is I the same position. Caps are pretty easy to check with an ohmmeter, I can certainly take a look. Very much worth a try! There were a slew of leaky caps around the time this thing was made, I know I replaced 2 in a JVC cassette deck I used to have, as well as a bunch on the MOBO of a Gateway computer around the same time. Certainly worth a shot!

Thanks everyone for the great response! The issue with replacing this thing is 1) it's not your standard "against the wall" range. Someone replaced a cooktop with this thing, ripping out the cupboards below in the process, and the back of the range isn't the usual "upright" that goes against the wall, it's flat like a stove, so that limits the available replacements and 2) there is no provision for overhead venting in this installation, it vents DOWNWARD from between the burners, again limiting potential replacements to an expensive few. None of this is tooooo insurmountable, but in addition to my wife running out on me (literally got no notice until she called me from the airport) I'm also going through some rather nasty health problems at the moment. Sorry, don't mean to complain. Again, thank you all for your ideas!
