I have a few cedar logs from tree that was knocked over by a storm. It's been down a couple of years. I cut it up into logs about 24 - 30 inches long by 9" - 10" in diameter so I could work with it and move it around.

I'm looking for some ideas on what I can make from the wood, especially with Christmas right around the corner.

My laser equipment is listed below. In addition to that, the other woodworking equipment I have includes;
10" table saw
10" mitre saw
drill press
sander, jigsaw, drill, and other hand tools.

As always, all help and suggestions are gratefully welcome.

I used a 3/4" slab to make a plaque for a pen stand.
It soaks up the lacquer.

People around here are into baking salmon and chicken etc. on cedar slabs. I haven't tried it but they say it makes a great flavor. You could make a bunch of slabs and cut out the shape of a fish or a chicken.

Ok guys, now you have my attention! This sounds really cool and definitely unique. I'm in southwest Louisiana and I've never heard of such a thing, but I'd like to try it out.
Any ideas on how to prep the wood, so I don't catch my wife's oven on fire? I did a Google search and didn't find anything on wooden baking slabs.

Isn't living in Oregon cheating though? Kind of like saying you can run the quarter mile faster than a Ferrari can drive it, but you start 10 feet away from the finish line. You're in Oregon, you have really fresh fish practically at your front door :p

I did some more searching and found that most folks refer to them as "planks". There seems to be quite a stir about grilling and baking with these things.

It looks like at least one of my logs will be "converted" into planks fairly soon.

Don't forget to soak it in water for a while before you put them on the Bar-B-Q or you'll just get a crispy critter on a stick of flaming charcoal:D
