I turned my 1st bowl after getting my 2hp 3ph motor and VFD on my Nova 1624. I sure do like the VFD, no belt changes, just turn the potentiometer! Motor is real quiet and smooth. I haven't tried my McNaughton bowl corer yet, but I have to believe that extra 1/2 hp will help.
I turned a cherry bowl 11-1/2"x4", couldn't get my vacuum chuck to fit inside curve so it gave me a good excuse to make a "Straka Chuck", I welded a 1-1/4"x8 nut on a large flat washer for my faceplate, worked great for turning the bottom of the bowl.
Will try to load pictures. Comments welcome. Bowl was rough turned, DNA'd, paper bag wraped, dried, trued up tenon and finish turned.

Beautiful bowl Skip. Glad to hear the VFD is working well for you. Really nice isn't it? Good looking chuck.

Like the bowl and like the set up even better for turning the bottom. Cant be much cost in a nut and washer.

Skip - nice work on the bowl! Glad to hear your lathe is working well! Nice chuck! Been a number of times where a donut chuck saves the day!

Steve - could pass along the detailed specs on the motor and VFD that you used? I'm not ready to make the jump yet but I'm taking notes.
