Is the NYW just leaving PBS or gone for good??

The show is ceasing production. There will be no new episodes. Norm will continue to appear on This Old House. I'd be very surprised if older seasons of NYW didn't go into syndication on the DIY channel or some such, just the way older seasons of This Old House are now available on at least two different channels in my area.

From the descriptions I've read of how an episode of NYWS gets put together, it sounds like many many times the amount of effort that appearing on This Old House would require. I hate to loose the show, but I can't begrudge the man for wanting to work less after all these years.

I have heard the same thing. Putting together a NYW episode is very demanding. Putting "more cooks in the kitchen" doesn't necessarily make it any easier or faster. Showing up to install an entry door for This Old House has to be a lot easier.
