Oh no that's what it's supposed to look like. This one suffered heat dmg during a house fire (no direct burning of it.) but the finish is crystalized. and it's MUCH darker (like walnut).

Good luck Keith, what are you planning to use for finishing,, lacquer, poly shelac ???

Dave,
I plan on using amber shellac. I have some minor repairs to make as well so. the biggest challenge will be retaining the gold leaf logo.

thanks for the encouragement. I hope so. I am not so much of a finish guy I like the designing and making but I HATE the finishing. I'm doing this for a friend so I really don't want to screw it up.

Outside of the top completed. I put the bottom next to if so you could see the dmg intense heat from a fire makes to a finish. It was not directly licked by the flames just heated up super high.

Gotta have something to do while the finish cures. :)
All rainy here today will most likely not do any woodworking as the humidity changes thing. :(
