I have to get started soon on a crib for my grandson that is due to arrive in late May. The crib is to be of the sleigh bed style and I need to get the hardware in order to finalize my design. I have been looking at the two kits offered by Rockler, one with rods and one rodless. Does anyone have any experience with these or others?

Thanks,
Bob

I was impressed by the quality of the hardware that I got from Woodsmith for a crib that I just finished using their plans. The mattress adjusts to four heights and both gates drop.

You can get the kit (and the plans) here:

I used the Rockler rod hardware for the crib I made. It worked very well and has survived two grand kids so far. Here's what mine looked like.

They give minimal instructions with the hardware, they assume you are using their plans as well. You may need to do some trial fitting to get things right.

Make sure you observe all the safety standards for cribs when you make the design. Bar spacing, gap around the mattress, no corner posts sticking up, etc.

Most finishes when they are cured are non-toxic so you can use almost any type of varish or lacquer.

I will probably go ahead and order the Rockler kit with rods. Lee, I found a website with all the spacings and safety info, so I am good on that end.

Thanks guys,
Bob
