on my new (!) jet 1642, there is a mount for a safety cage. i've not the room for it; was wondering if anyone had modified their lathe, using that mount, to make a holder for spindle duplication, like the one that comes on the powermatic. mike

I use it as a handy place to store the knock-out rod to remove the center drive.

I've heard people talk about using it for a spindle dupe holder. It is also a good place to mount flex-neck lights, etc.

Here's a thread I posted (including pictures) on using the mount to connect a flex light. Works great.

Looks good Philip, but there's a CAR clogging up a lot of your shop space.

Richard,
I have my bandsaw, drill press and work bench lined along the opposite wall from the lathe. I park the car there to protect them from being hit by any blanks that fly off the lathe :D

I removed it and put in a dust collection hood!!

lots of good uses for it i see. think i'll leave it there to protect the inverter, if nothing else. might do something with it, one day. mike
