I bought some 3-M car polishing compound, a Quart bottle for about $40.00
It's the finer stuff made for dark color paint.

My intended use was to hand rub out a finish.

Since then I've learned that the stuff is better than diamond on glass for getting a brilliant mirror finish on my cutting edges.

It's prolly better because with the diamond I'm stingy but, with the quart of 3-M I'm generous. But man it really cuts fast and brings up a mirror like who dun it.

Been stropping with polishing (white) compound,or Simichrome for decades,Cliff. I keep advising folks to do so.

I've been using white metal polish I found in an AutoZone. It works really well too. I put it on MDF with my honing guide and get a mirror shine easily.

I bought a quart bottle of DuPont PerFectit III for about $12 about 5 years ago. Probably have used less than 1/4 of it, and it brings a mirror polish quicker than anything.

first time I got a razor edge years ago was with a leather strop (luggage tag)
sprayed with some kind of stainless steel polish.

Now I have fallen into the trap of norton water stones, veritas green compound, and .3 micron diamond paste.

Sounds tempting to try some of the auto polishes.

I've been using Noxon metal polish on a leather strop for a few months now. It works great and is ridiculously cheap.
