My 22 yr old Grandson, Clay who is in the Army Reserve left this morning to report to Ft Sill Oklahoma. As a Korean War veteran, I am very proud of him (as are all of our family members) for his strong desire to serve his country. Attached is a pic of Clay and I after his last H.S. Football game (3 yrs ago) when I was fortunate to have coached him (another proud moment).

Congratulations, Ken!

I'm sure that you are an inspiration to your grandson. As an Air Force veteran, I am always glad to see young people sacrificing a few years of their lives to serve our country. For me, it was a great way to start my adult life.

I can only encourage any young person to seriously consider service as an option for beginning their careers. They can serve in either the Armed Forces or some other public service organization (Peace Corps, teacher corps(?), etc.). The self-discipline and life lessons are invaluable.

Cheers,
Bob Janka,
USAF 1984-1989

P.S. This timeframe is one of the few 5 year stretches when the USA was not actively engaged in any overseas "operation"s.

Ken,
As a father who has a son in the AF...and someone who works in the buisness...I understand the pride. I also understand the concern...
We are doing our best to support those men and women over there...

I am american, I support our troups, I am proud of our flag, I think our president has the gumption to do what is right, and I am proud of your grandson. As a Navy Vietnam vet it always sends chills of patriotism over me when I see a young man or woman joining the service. You are truly blessed as I am sure he is by having you as a grandpaw!

Very fine young man! He is a shining example what a good upbringing will yield in a Young Man. I am sure you are proud of him, as you should be. We should all support our Military Men and Women....regardless what you think of our Administration and the current conflict. Personally, it makes me sick to see the demonstrators putting down our Military Forces...............I cannot believe they are so naive as they do not realize WHY they have the right to protest. It is because of our Service People that they can voice their opinion, then they run it in the ground. Plain and simple, this Middle Eastern Mad Man had to be stopped, and I for one am glad that I live in a Country that has the leadership with the Backbone to stand up for what is RIGHT! OK, I got that off my chest...............Good Luck to your Grandson Ken.......we will be thinking about him and remembering him and all the Forces in our prayers.

Or is that ol' geezer smilin'? Yeah, couldn't be Ken.

I have two in the USAF, Ken. What makes you proud, is that they chose to be, so that we can choose to be.

Ken,
It seems that there is a huge military presence in the Creek.
Thanks to you and Clay as well as all of the other Sawmill Creek family who have served in our military.

I hope you grandson knows that the vast yet largely silent majority in this great country of ours (myself included!) is behind him and supporting him 110%! He'll be in my thoughts and prayers.

Here's a big hoo ray from an old Infantry Viet Nam vet for Clay. I'm guessing he's an artillery man if he's at Sill.
