Hi all,

It's a bit after the event but I've just done a deal for some ready made round, oval and octagonal 6" plaques made from Sycamore.

Could anyone with experience with this wood tell me if it engraves nicely?

Thanks.

Dave,

I've made and engraved several quarter sawn Sycamore plaques and they came out very nice. May be a little lite (no burn).

Thanks for the reply Dave,

I guess I should have asked before committing to the plaques. I was hoping there would be a nice contrast after engraving.

Engrave one (maybe back off the focus a bit to improve the burn) If the wood is well finished, you can also darken the engraving with some mild colouring.. Sometime a package of dark fabric dye disolved in a pint of water in a spray bottle will do the trick.. I have used this trick in the past to 'slightly' darken some woods that don't give a great contrast

Good tip Bill, Thank you.

I haven't taken delivery of them yet but I'll give them a go when they get here.

If they don't engrave so well all is not lost. I could still use them with colour fill. It was just they were a good price so I got them while the opportunity was there.

Thanks again.
