View Full Version : Increasing Reveal on Panel Cutter

I have a 3-1/2" horizontal ogee panel raiser. I'm working on an entrance door that has 1/2" deep grooves for the panels. It has curved top panels. What I would like is to have more reveal of the ogee. i.e. would like the end tongue a little longer, but, the bit has a top bearing that prevents this. I can go from a 1/2" dia. bearing to 3/8" but that doesn't do much. Any trade secrets how to do this?

Thanks,

Mike

with a curved cutter, get a bigger one, that's the only solution afaik. with a straight cutter you could make multiple passes to get a longer profile.

I have ground off the bearing post and used the router table fence to set depth beyond the intended design for profile bits but never on a bit that large.

You are coming up against the limits of the router.
On a shaper you would have much more lattitude.
Grinding off the bearing post could work but it will also
elminate the usefulness of the bit for curved work.

That's what I thoutht. Like I said I could go deeper safely with the straight portions w/o bearing but the top curved panels would be a challenge.
