Still waiting for trees to turn here. Coldest it has reached is 34.
I noticed on the map Montana, Wyoming, Idaho and Colorado have already had many snow events.
There prediciting an El Nina event here. I dont believe the weather people very much. They say warmer.
I think the passes here have had snow about 1 week ago.

We have had mid to high 20's a couple of times in my area of Mid Michigan and mixed snow and rain is predicted for the first of next week. We have been getting quite a bit of rain but nothing like other areas of the US.

Light snow predicted for this Sat. morning. No accumulation the ground is still to warm, but it is comming. Kind of nice for the phesant opener. I like hunting when it is colder, keeps the dogs and myself cooler.

We got our first snow here a couple of weeks ago. Waiting for the snow to hit Thursday thru Saturday. The frost killed off my tomatoes, even being covered.

Anyone have any good ideas what to use green tomatoes for?

1/2 inch on the ground early thisw week. Enough for a short snowball fight, but been too busy at work to even think about it. The leaves on the trees haven't turned yet. I hope we don't get a heavy wet one that breaks off all the tree branches!

Could have snow in Colorado for the Phillies-Rockies game Saturday. I wish they would end the baseball season by Labor Day and have the World Series over by now! Baseball used to be a Summer sport. Well at least it's not in Philly where they'd throw snowballs at the players (and Santa Claus). Sorry for the rant and hijack.

Quite a few feet so far but it's come as rain so I guess it doesn't count.

Looking forward to those two games personally! Love playoff baseball, especially when the Rockies are in! It's snowing like crazy here now. I'm not too far north of Denver. Good weekend to go duck hunting I guess.

The weather forecasters are never very accurate here, but last night they insisted we'd be down to 30, so I closed up the enclosure around my less hardy bonsai trees and brought in a couple of nice geraniums to keep them from freezing. I got up just now and found it to be 45!

Yup, same here Paul. White dusting on the ground. Looks like got lowest 21.7 °F around 8AM this morning. Now we are back to tropical 30 and wind chill 23. Our master gardener (aka SWMBO) wisely ordered a final vegetable harvest two nights ago.

A friend called earlier from the Upper Peninsula of Michigan and said it was snowing like crazy up there. He has been up there for a few weeks hunting bear but hasn't had any luck so far.
It was 29 degrees here when I got up this morning. No snow here yet.

It's 26º F here this morning at 0450. I hope the freshwater outside hose didn't freeze last night. I need to shut off the line and drain it today.

Fry 'em. I like using Tempura batter.

Here's another recipe for GREAT green tomato relish.

Here is our Piccalilli recipe from recipegoldmine.com.

Piccalilli

This is a delicious hot dog and hamburger relish!

4 cups finely chopped cabbage
4 cups finely chopped green tomatoes
1 cup finely chopped celery
2 large onions, finely chopped
2 red bell peppers, seeded and finely chopped
2 green bell peppers, seeded and finely chopped
1/4 cup salt
1 cinnamon stick
1 teaspoon whole cloves
1 teaspoon whole allspice
1 1/4 cups cider vinegar
1 1/2 cups water
2 cups firmly packed brown sugar
1 teaspoon dry mustard
1 teaspoon turmeric
Dash of hot pepper sauce

Chop vegetables using the coarse blade of a food grinder or in a food processor. Combine vegetables and salt; cover and let stand overnight.

Drain off as much liquid as possible, pressing through a clean, thin white cloth if necessary. Tie cinnamon, cloves and allspice in a cheesecloth bag. Place vegetables, spice bag and remaining ingredients in a large pot. Bring to a boil; reduce heat and simmer 20 minutes.

Ladle into clean, hot jars, leaving 1/2-inch headspace; seal. Process in boiling water bath 15 minutes.

Yields 4 pints.
