Horst,

Those are very cool.

I have not done anything like that yet. I am afraid the wife and her teacher friends would have me busy doing nothing but jewelry!! :D

Excellent Horst! Very precise and clean! Great depth control! Really like the way the Mother-of-Pearl sets off the wood! Very impressive work! Thanks for sharing!

Beautiful work. I just the link to my wife. We'll see if I can make something half as good.

Nice work, one question, how thick are the pieces? I see you cut the front and back which makes a very nice design.

Thanks for all the kind comments!
And here is some info about how I did it. There are definately better
methods to do it, but as I don't know how many more of these things
I'm gonna do, I didn't want to invest into expensive special jaws, but
made do with what I had in my workshop. And I hope I won't fall into
disgrace for using a crosstable. But it gives you much more control.
The cutting tool is a piece of hss planerblade ( 3 mm thick ) with a
narrow (about 1.35 mm ) cuttingedge ground to one end. I did the rings and
grooves equally wide and as wide as the blade, but found this too
delicate for other woods than ABW. All further attempts failed so far.
The rings or parts of them just broke off during turning.
Suggestionsabout how to do better welcome.

How I did it:

1. Make a set of wooden jaws to chuck the blank 3 - 4 mm deep.
2. Turn a piece of mdf to about 20 cm diameter and make a few
wooden brackets ( or whatever you like to call them ) to fasten the
blank on the mdf to do the excentric rings.
3. Chuck the blank in the wooden jaws to cut the concentric rings.
4. Reverse chuck the blank in the wooden jaws to round over the
other side of the blank to a thickness of about 3,5 mm at the edge
and 6 - 7 mm at the centre ( earrings 2,5 and 5 )
5. Mount the blank onto the mdf with the desired offset and cut the
excentric rings.
6. Sand and cut away the small woodfibres in the grooves with a small
sharp knife.
