It has been a long time since I have had any turning time but finally got back in the shop. Sure felt good. Been awhile since I posted any comments as well but I have been looking at all the excellent work posted and as always it has been excellent ! Anyway this piece measures 6-1/2" diameter x 10" overall height. Ebony lid and finial. Finished with antique oil and buffed. As always your comments, good, bad or ugly are appreciated.

Beautiful work.
I noticed a pith on the near side, was it a crotch piece?

Keith - as always - this is exceptional work! The hollow form is an interesting variation on the heart shape and it works very well. Your finial is about as delicate as it can get. Always a pleasure to view your turnings!

Hope this means you will be posting a little more often!

Keith....absulutely stunning.

A question? Where are you getting your ebony?

I have yet to see a source for something big enough to be a finial and surely it's already dry.....as in kiln dried?

Thanks!

Thanks Dennis. Yes it is a crotch. The other limb is on the opposite side of the opening.

I use a trick that Curt Fuller taught me. Pen Blanks. They are relative inexpensive and generally dry. The lid is from 3/4" board stock.

Keith, so gracefully done, and ditto Richard; I enjoy turning Mesquite and it's great to see a piece so nicely done!

Best to you,

Jude
