Does anyone know where to find information on Atkins saws and what to look for? I did a google search and came up pretty much empty handed. My main concern is dating the saw to within a decade or so. I might have the opportunity to buy a saw but I want to know its approximate date first before buying. Don't want to purchase anything after WWII if I can help it. Just a personal preference.

Thanks!

Hello...

There's not a lot of information on dating Atkins saws that I've found on the web - here's a couple of resources, though:

http://www.geocities.com/~mvr1/atkinssaws.html

http://www.astragalpress.com/astragal_cat_handsaw.htm

And if you can find a mwtca member who still has a copy, there is an article in their publication "The Gristmill" from 1996:

<TABLE width="90%" align=center border=1><TBODY><TR><TD>E.C. Atkins - The Rise of The E.C. Atkins Saw Empire in Indianapolis </TD><TD>No. 84, Pg. 29, Sep 1996</TD><TD>O. Ramsey </TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE>

Mark....I have a couple of original Atkins catalogs showing the entire product line. If you can post a pic or p.m. me, I will see what I can find. I also have a couple of general reference books that might be useful in dating it, provided we can determine the model number.

I have the MWTCA article mentioned as well. The Atkins company was in my hometown when I was growing up....one of the neighbor men worked there. They were pretty well defunct by 1960, so the probability of your having a pre-WW2 saw seems pretty good.
