My first time on this forum.

I am making a box that needs some two-handed sculpting work. I need to hold it down, but it is too wide for my vises. I am thinking about screwing a block to the base that I can hold in a vise. Then I realized you folks live with these needs all the time.

Can you point me to some information on a home-made carver's vise?

i dont use a vise. i use small slats of wood and sheet rock screws and a screw gun. i just hold the piece with the slats or use them as stops while carving. i can move them in ten seconds.

I got up early today and used a couple of screws to attach a block of wood to the bottom of the piece I'm working on. I tightened that in my end vise and it has worked just fine.
