Don't laugh too hard at this question. I have been working wood over 20 years and I am kind of confused over this. I have a Stanley 18" jointer plane.
This is my question: Should this plane be used bevel up or bevel down.
You can answer after you stop laughing. Thanks.

Judging by some of the planes I find in the wild, it's not a stupid question :)
The easy way to remember is when the blade is installed in the plane you should be able to see the company logo showing.

All mine are bevel down. Try it both ways and let us know what works best.

Not a dumb question at all.
Usually, planes with a chip breaker are bevel-down.
The only ones I have that are bevel up are block planes and bench planes specifically marketed as "bevel up" or "low angle" planes.

Down, but what you have is a #6 fore plane, not a jointer, which is 22" and a #7.
