I have a client who wants me to rout out the back of a foil covered door ( remove a rectangle and rabbett) so each can accept glass.
Its MDF core and there white doors.
Will the Foil chip or tear?
The back of the door is flat completely. I was thinking of setting up my straightedge jig for plunge router and rout it out through the back? Where I have to come through on the front though is a small bevel , so bit will be eating through some area on one side thats thin and one side thats almost 3/4.
Other ways I thought of are dropping it down on a table saw and cutting most of line(s) that way and finish with jig saw. Another way of just using a jig saw with straightedge.

Thanks for taking a look.

It would be a good idea to clamp a sacrificial piece over the foil to keep it from tearing out. At the least, some masking tape should help reduce tear out. It may still tear. If you know exactly where the foil will be cut, you could score it first with a knife and a straight edge.
