Long live TIVO !! I recently had a wishlist set up to auto record any show with woodworking in its description. This evening on the History Channel a new show (??) called ToolBox aired. The 30 minute episode was on the "The Plane" and was really good. They covered the Stanley's, Bailey's and the LN's. During the episode they showed the process of how the LN's are machined and then the final assembly by hand. The next segment was cool. It had this dude using a Tormek to tune up a plane. The best part of the show was an interview with Guy Rabut who makes handcrafted violins and showed the different planes he used in making his $18,000 violins. This guy has a plane that is a whopping 1/2" long. Pretty Cool !!

Get your VCR or Tivo ready because this upcoming Thursday 9/23 starting at 0800 and 1400 they have back to back Marathons of ToolBox episodes covering plane, ruler, handsaw, wrench, drill, hammer,ax and more.

Enjoy !!

This show sounds amazing!
A TIVO's like a big hard-drive right?
Is it possible to e-mail the show?
Assuming you have a high-speed connection?
Thanks.

Tivo is pretty much a large hard drive, but it is not easy to hack it to get the data off :( There are sites out there that describe the process, just make sure that that the FBI is not watching if you catch my drift ;)

It does sound like a cool show to watch :D

Howard:

I really enjoyed the showed. I am not a Neanderthal by any means. I have a neighbor who makes Violins and it is incredible in the amount of work and it is a labor of love.

Tivo is Consumer Friendly Linux PC with graphics card capable of recording TV programs. The format it stores the shows in is proprietary and cannot be shared:mad: . All that I can say is once you have TIVO you never go back to the normal style of watching TV. I like TV but hate commercial and Tivo allows for you to skip them with ease.

Do you not get the History Channel?

Knowing the History Channel they will be on again.

BTW, I thought Survivor was blah and getting tired. Have you seen the Benefactor?

Rich, love the history channel for a variety of reasons. You're right they air the tool shows about once a year. I taped them for leisure time viewing. By the way you need to add " The Shadow Knows" to your signature.

Thanks Rich -
The "History Channel" we get in Canada is different than the History Channel you get in the US.
Don't ask me why. The CRTC (the Canadian opposite number to your FCC) has been known to behave capriciously.
